Dahlia

Dahlia is a genus of perennial plants native to Mexico, Central America, and Colombia. The Aztecs gathered and cultivated the dahlia for food, ceremonies, as well as for decorative purposes. The dahlia gets its name from a Swedish 18th-century botanist, Anders Dahl. There are at least 36 species of dahlia, with colors in the warm ranges, such as red, orange, yellow, pink, and white. It’s flowers come in a huge amount of different shapes and sizes. Dahlia hybrids are commonly grown as garden plants. They do best in full light, and in well drained rich soil. The flowers themselves are often used to symbolize dignity, elegance, and good taste.

Gerbera Daisies

Gerbera daisies are widely used in cut flower arrangements, and are a great flower for adding some color to a room or garden. They come in a wide array of colors- light to dark yellow, orange, pink, scarlet, red and many more. Native to Transvaal, South Africa, gerbera daisies are actually perennials in warm climates. In our climate, they can be grown as an annual or an indoor plant. Like many daisies, Gerberas are said to signify beauty, innocence and purity. However, the gerbera variety holds an added meaning of cheerfulness, which stems from the assortment of colors available. We love Gerbera daisies at George’s Flowers. You can find them in many of our designs, and even on our store signs and delivery trucks!

Calla Lilies

Calla Lilies are also known as Arum Lilies, and are in fact neither a true Lily, nor Arum or Calla. It is also often erroneously spelled as "cala lily". The proper name for a calla lily is Zantedeschia, and it is native to Southern Africa. They will grow best in moist soil and with full sun.

It has an elegant flute shaped
flower that is reminiscent of a champagne glass, which may explain why it is such a popular flower for use in weddings. They are also used in many paintings, they're visible in many of Diego Rivera's works of art. There are now many different sizes and colors of Calla Lilies available, many of which can be featured in our floral designs here at George's Flowers!
